Hearing Aid FAQ

Can I get Audiologist Assistance when Purchasing my Hearing Aids?
Yes, you can. In fact we encourage it so you get the right hearing aids for your hearing loss. Please call or email us. If you can send us an audiogram (hearing test) and answer some simple questions, it will help us to help you choose the right hearing aids.

What is an Instant Fit CIC Hearing Aid?
An Instant Fit hearing aid is a CIC hearing aid that does not require an Ear Mold like traditional CIC's. Right now these include units such as the Phonak Audeo Zip or Unitron Fuse. These models are invisible because they fit completely in the ear like a traditional CIC hearing aid. These new type of hearing aids will work for about 70% of all people with hearing loss and fit most types of ear canals with different sized inserts available. They are also flexible so may be more comfortable and less susceptible to moving out of place with typical body motion.

How Can I Get Adjustments Made to My Hearing Aids?
We program most hearing aids we sell before shipping them, so adjustments may not be required. This is a free service to anyone who wants it when purchasing.

Though adjustments are not required very often once programmed, they may be needed. After hearing aids are shipped out to customers, you have 3 options if adjustment/reprogramming is needed:

  • You can see your own local audiologist or hearing aids dispenser.
  • We can refer you to an professional in your area where you can get free or low cost adjustments for a certain time period.
  • You can send your hearing aids back to us for adjustments.
  • Some Hearing Aids such as Starkey can be adjusted by us remotely for you.

Since our prices are so much lower than the competition (generally hundreds or thousands less), it easily offsets any shipping costs to us or adjustment costs charged by a local professional in your area.

Do I have a Trial Period, and How Long is It?
Yes, you do have Trial Period for your hearing aids. It is 40 days. If you find they are not suitable for you, you can send them back after the 40 days for a refund or another set of hearing aids. You do not have to return the aids within the 40 trial period. You get the full 40 days to try them out first.

Why Are Hearing Aids Experts Prices Lower Than the Competition?
We have very little overhead as traditional local offices do. We also strive to provide lower prices to make hearing aids more affordable to everyone.

How Often Do I Need to Purchase New Hearing Aids?
Due to your body chemistry and wear & tear, Hearing Aids degrade over time. You can get a useful life of anywhere from 5 - 7 years out of a pair of hearing aids before they need replacing. It can be more or less, but that is an average.

What Other Health Problems/Symptoms May Signify I Have a Hearing Loss and Need Hearing Aids?
It could be any number of things, but here are some things to look for. Do you have any eyesight problems? Do you have hand dexterity/coordination/arthritis problems?

What are the Warranty Periods on Hearing Aids and What do They Cover?
Generally a hearing aid manufacturer gives you  a 1-3 year warranty on their hearing devices. This varies by model so please check with us for exact warranty period for specific hearing aids.

How Can I Insure Proper Fitment on My BTE Hearing Aids
BTE (Behind the Ear) style hearing aids generally fit everyone well, but there may be some small alterations necessary. This would include different size receiver tubes and earbuds. We will gladly include additional sizes of these items if you request them. If you feel you may need these, just request them in the notes/additional instructions section at checkout.

If you need a RIC (Receiver In Canal) please let us know. The most common size is a #2. Additional RIC's may incur additional cost, so it is best to know the proper size when ordering. We can send additional RIC's if requested for an additional $40 - $75 dollars. We do not recommend this unless there is a specific reason to do so.

Can I Order CIC, ITE, and Other In the Ear Hearing Aids on Your Website?
Yes you can. You will need to send us an Impression of your ear to do this. There are two main ways to do this.

  • You could get an Impression (used to make finished Ear Molds) of your ears from a local professional.
  • You could get an Impression Kit and do your own Impressions. Your ears must be clean of all wax and must be fungus free. You must be extremely careful when choosing this option as you can do damage to your ears.

You would then send us the impressions along with either a Medical Clearance or a Waiver to Medical Evaluation. This is on the website checkout process when you order. Hearing Aids Experts LLC is not responsible for impressions or molds that are not correctly done or any damage done to a persons ears by making a mold or impression incorrectly.

What Does it Cost for a Set of Impressions?
The cost for impressions is usually around $15-50, depending on the audiologist or hearing professional you visit. Many audiologists may be surprised by your request for impressions. If you are going to a local professional for ear impressions, please contact us. We will tell you what to ask for so that you are not turned away.

What Do I Ask for When Having Impressions Made?
Ask for a set of full ear impressions. Be sure to ask them if they use silicone or paste. Most hearing professionals use silicone impression material, but a few still use the outdated paste technology. We suggest that you insist on silicone impressions because it makes more accurate impressions which are far less susceptible to damage during shipping and the production of your finished custom ear molds. There should be no difference in the cost of the two materials. The silicone is also easier to use, so you should not have any trouble with this request.

A Local Professional Quoted Me $60 for Impressions! Why is it So Expensive?
If the price is more than $20, they may be quoting you for finished ear molds. Ask them to specify if the price is for molds or impressions. You can tell the hearing professional that you just want the impressions for custom ear plugs. Most will be happy to assist you. If they will not just make the impressions for you, call around. There are a lot of professionals out there, and many will be helpful. Unfortunately, not all providers have their customer's best interests at heart or understand what customer service means.

What if I Decide to Buy my Ear Molds from a Local Provider?
If you decide to buy from the hearing professional who makes your impressions, please let us know. We suggest that you ask a lot of questions to make sure you are getting the right product for your application, and that you make sure you know all the costs involved. We only use one company for ear molds due to quality issues we've had in the past. Also be sure to ask for the policy on the fitting guarantee. The local professional may even send your impressions to the same ear mold laboratory we use. The biggest differences will be in the cost of the finished ear molds. Because we are a worldwide business, our volume is greater than that of most any independent office, and we pass along the resulting lower costs to our customers.
